About Teresa

Teresa's diverse background includes degrees in vocal performance and pedagogy as well as music theory and composition, awards from the Aspen Music Festival, and extensive vocal study in Italy.  A native of the Twin Cities, she earned her undergraduate degree from the College of St. Catherine, and then moved west to the University of Colorado at Boulder where she received her Master of Music.

A firm believer that one never stops learning, Teresa has continued her vocal education throughout her career.  A passionate student of the mechanics of the voice, Teresa is honored and grateful to continue the tradition of singing and instruction that she has learned from her teachers, Mary Kay Schmidt (Minneapolis, MN) and Rita Patané (Milan, Italy).  In addition to her own private study, she is involved in professional teaching organizations and attends workshops and continuing education courses that pertain to singing and vocal production.

As a performer, Teresa recently made her debut with the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra in their season closing, sold-sold out concerts of Mendelssohn's "A Midsummer Night's Dream".  Other recent solo performances include Mozart's Requiem, Beethoven's Choral Fantasy, Pergolesi's Stabat Mater, Brahms' Requiem,  Bach's Cantata's Nos. 51, 82, and 84, and Handel's Judas Maccabeus and Messiah. Collegiate teaching experience includes work at the University of Colorado at Boulder and Century College in White Bear Lake, MN.  She has also worked extensively with the private voice lesson programs at Robbinsdale Armstrong High School, Eagan High School, and Rosemount High School.  Her students have received scholarships and pursued performance degrees at some of the best music programs in the country.  In addition, over 15 years of teaching continuing education and personal enrichment courses has led to a strong understanding and passion for working with adult singers of all levels.

In addition to private teaching, Teresa is frequently sought after as a clinician for master classes as well as an adjudicator for auditions and contests.  Teresa is a nationally certified member of MTNA (Music Teachers National Association) and NATS (National Association of Teachers of Singing).
